Hello!  

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mary Ellen. I am a professional artist. I work with seniors and children helping them to express who they are through the creation of art. The name of my business is “A Brush with the Earth”.

I believe that young children are thrust into a society where they are trained to be everything except who they truly are. From the time they are born and enter school age, they are told what to think, what to feel, what to wear, what to eat, what to do, etc. Once they have graduated school, they find themselves asking the question, “Who am I?” 

I believe that many seniors have lost their sense of importance to society, and to themselves.  They long to find themselves again and they long to be remembered. I have created an art program that allows people to join the fun and uncover and explore their true creative abilities outside of the traditional classroom in a natural outdoor setting.

In my program, we focus on “letting go” of our fear of making mistakes, self-criticism, judgment, and negativity. We emphasize being “one” with God, nature, positivity, confidence, and individualism. 

“Students” are taught to create art through the use of a variety of mediums. There are no restrictions on how a finished piece must look. Students are encouraged to think outside of the box and to just let loose while having fun!  We draw pink elephants and yellow cows! We break the “norms”. We focus on the light. 

Classes take place in a memory care center for seniors and in a small red brick barn for the children and adult members of the community. The sheep, hens, and pony interact with the visitors in the barn and add to the peaceful atmosphere. There is a beautiful sense of wellness while making the journey back to ourselves and uniting our spirits with God.

My goal is to ignite the light of love in all who choose to participate in this journey with me, and to spread that love across the world far and wide!
